Selena Gomez: Stop Comparing Yourself to Others!

Selena Gomez: Be Your Self!

Social media posts constantly bombard Generation Z users. Most posts are about other people's successes and achievements. They are also about the perfect looks of celebrities.

For some people, such posts often lower the confidence level of Generation Z. Selena Gomez, a US celebrity, is well aware of this situation.

She herself has experienced insecurity and had to fight for her mental health.

"I'm open about my personal mental health struggles and how I feel lacking," Selena Gomez was quoted as saying by edition.cnn.com.

The famous singer and actor wants to try to reduce the stigma associated with discussing mental health and to encourage people to celebrate their uniqueness.

Even though she has experienced difficult things herself, she still chooses to be open about what she is going through.

There are too many expectations that people have of her, but they never materialize. Especially if there is pressure to look good, so she is afraid to show her true self to the public.

Social media certainly often influences our idea of what perfection is.

"For anyone who is struggling with mental health issues or just going through a difficult time, I want to tell you that you are not alone," Gomez explained.

Gomez admits that she loves the art of makeup and experimenting with different looks. She believes it can totally change the character.

Her dependence on wearing makeup does not necessarily undermine her belief that without makeup she is also beautiful and attractive. She now feels that makeup is an accessory and something that excites her.

Even so, she too often feels pressure to look good with makeup. Often it can hide or cover up perceived imperfections.

Whether you're a girl or a boy, you should still be able to challenge the norms of appearance by changing the conversation and celebrating what makes you unique.

"I want everyone to find strength in what makes them rare. We all need to accept our uniqueness, stop comparing ourselves to others, and love ourselves more, especially right now," says Gomez.

Another solution is therapy support. "I am also a strong supporter of therapy. It helped me answer a lot of questions about why I feel a certain way and helped me overcome some obstacles," says Gomez.

At first, it was not easy for her to be open with the fact that she was battling depression and anxiety. Now she is able to start accepting reality and being open with her struggles.

She hopes that people can struggle with mental health issues related to appearance.
